square-wave versus sine-wave controllers
« on: July 27, 2019, 10:01:08 AM »
I'm having trouble getting enough power from my VEC500--10 KW controller working with a 10KW BLDC motor.   I'm wondering about switching to a square-wave controller.   I'd like that motor to occasionallly give me 20 KW for accelleration and hill climbing.

Should I switch to one of the square-wave controllers, and if so, which one.  I assume I will hear humming, which I don't mind, and also lose efficiency.  I'm presently using  four 60 V. pacifica batteries in parallel, and have been trying various voltage settings on the VEC 500 controller.

So far,   the 48 volt setting seems to work best, but i'm still experimenting.  The 72 volt setting over-limits the current...and so far, I haven't got the 60 volt setting to work.
