Magic pie cable conversion. From 8 pins to 7. HELP
« on: November 20, 2016, 07:35:05 PM »
So I want to convert the connector from the old Magic Pie's to my new ones, for universal throttle and etc. And I have bumped into a problem - old version has 8 pins, never ones - 7. So far what I did - everything works, but since there is no PAS pin in the new configuration - In order to start accelerating from the thumb throttle - I have to spin the front wheel at least a couple of inches. It doesn't start from the throttle itself. After I spin the wheel for a bit - throttle works just perfect.

Anyone has any ideas?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Hi Thommy andto the forum.

It looks like you are converting an MPI or MPII motor to suit the early MPIII control harness (the later MPIII, MP4 and MP5 all have 10 pin connectors!)

It sounds like one or more of the Hall sensors inside the motor will have failed:

If this happens, the controller will automatically switch to sensorless mode, and when sensorless mode is activated, the wheel must be turning before the throttle can be used.  ;)

If your internal controller is equipped with an on board beeper like this one:

You should hear two beeps when the controller is initially powered up if there is a Hall sensor fault.

However, if your controller is like this one, which doesn't have the beeper installed:

Then you won't hear any beeps informing you of the Hall sensor failure.
