Reverse hardwire?
« on: July 01, 2014, 09:40:55 AM »
Hi

I have a smartpie mounted in front of an old minibike, and for some reason it fits best in reverse position, so the controller is set for reverse. I recently discovered that after dragging the bike without power (battery) it resets itself and I have 100% reverse  :-[
I can just set the controller back to "normal" but what if I somehow get it to reset on a trip away from home, maybe long way to pedal :-)

Is it possible to hardwire it in reverse (its brushless so just switch two output wires) but do I need to reorder the sensors as well?

NR , that is not necessary . I had a similar problem with my Nirve Cannabal bike because the disk brake is on the opposite side of most bikes . Gary set mine up for me . At the bottom of the wiring harness about 6" from where the cables go into the hub there should be 4 wires that are not terminated . Gary twisted 2 of them together which makes the bike go in reverse . The problem is since I have placed a wire connector on the correct 2 wires I don't know which color that they are . I do know that they are not the yellow or red because they are exposed and not terminated . Maybe Gary can chime in and give you the correct colors . Or check the wiring harness color code . Rod

NR  , I peeked into my connector on the front loom , I call it a wiring harness . Its the blue and black wires that need to be shorted together to activate reverse . My guess is that they set this up so a switch could be placed on blue and black and you could go forward and reverse for a trike . You still need to activate reverse in the programing and set the speed in reverse . Rod

Thanks guys for the reply, and the input.
As I understand this will force it in reverse all the time, and the reverse setting will be my speedsetting, only problem is that reverse speedsetting is default 47% on my smartpie so I could go home at ½ speed, but better than going in reverse I guess :-)

No one made an app for setting up pies via smartphone yet? :-)

Nor have they made a program for Mac . I have to own a piece of junk PC laptop that my cousin gave me only for programing my pies . By the way how would you link a smart phone to the pie ?    I still don't understand your setting of 47% . I have mine set at 100 % and it goes the same speed as it would in forward .Rod

I would link the smartphone (android OTG enabled) via USB OTG cable and standard GM programming cable and just as many other usb controlable devices make the settings via some app, if GM would make it or maybe let the codes public so another app coding GM fan could make the app, just awishfull thinking for my part  ;)

The 47% is apparantly a factory default for reverse on my Smart Pie, because that where its at if the wheel resets.

If the settings didnt reset I would never consider making hardwire changes.
