Battery key and on/off
« on: August 07, 2017, 04:32:05 PM »
I often found Gary in the videos talking about switching the battery key to ''off'' and then back ''on''.

Whatever I do with my battery key, the battery is always ''on''. The only thing the key is doing on mine is to lock the battery in place... I got no on/off function from the key. Is it the way it is supposed to be ? or it should turn the power off when I unlock the battery.

Also on the battery, there is a press button at the top with lights on each side. What is the usage of that button, the lights are coming up when i'm pressing/holding it, but is it supposed to be an on/off switch ? it doesn't on mine .

That is a 36V11AH-SHARK from GM.

Thanks.

It sounds like the shark pack does not have a built in On/Off switch and the key is purely to lock the battery into its cradle.
If this is the case, you will need to either fit a suitable high current switch between the battery and the controller, or remove the battery to disconnect it completely to prevent the battery from discharging itself when it is not being used.

The controller will continue to draw ~42mA (0.042A) with the battery connected, which may not sound a lot, but 42mA is still enough to completely drain a fully charged 11Ah battery in less than 11 days!

The momentary push button simply powers the battery gauge indicator LEDs while it is pressed, and is supposed to provide a rough indication of the remaining battery capacity.

Presumably all 4 LEDs will illuminate when it's  fully charged and only 1 LED will illuminates when it's almost empty.

Thanks Alan for the response.

I do remove the battery when not using the bike. Solves the issue lol.

I put a flat wire connector (2 wires) between the main and the battery, but noticed a ''spark'' sound when I plugged it, so I figured it was better to remove the battery and only unplug that connector if I need to do some maintenance on the rear wheel.
