Prodeco to MP3 Conversion?
« on: May 01, 2014, 07:31:09 PM »
Greetings,

I have a Prodeco Storm 500 http://prodecotech.com/bikes/storm-500/ bike that I purchased about 6 months ago and have been, overall, very happy with it.

It has a rack-mount 38.4V 9Ah LiFePO4 24 Cell battery and a custom controller built into the rack.

While I really enjoy the bike, I've been pondering selling it or massively upgrading it.  At this point I would love to keep the bike and upgrade but preferably over multiple months and several purchases.

So my question is, does it sound reasonable to replace the current rear hub motor with a Magic Pie 3 and rewire the current battery/controller rack to remove their controller and just plug the battery right into the MP3?

I would, if necessary, replace the throttle controls but I think they are likely compatible (w/ some splicing/soldering) to the MP3 controller.

So, any thoughts??

Thanks a ton!

Ben

Hi Ben andto the forum.

It should be OK replacing the current motor with an MPIII just so long as the battery pack and wiring is capable of supplying enough current (~30Amps).

Another option might be to use the external controller version of the MPIII connected to your existing controller, but the current limiting of the original controller will probably prevent any noticeable increase in power. ::)
