MP3 replacement wheel still buggy
« on: January 12, 2014, 07:09:08 PM »
I've not had any response to my last request for forum help so I will start afresh , Since the new complete repacement rear wheel I have had following issues , suggestions for any would be good . pedelec function only worked on one trip. Cruise controll is hit and miss. internal brake is hit and miss.If I remove battery lead and replace , motor reverts to full power!  I don't get any indication of connection when I use programming lead. With replacement motor came complete wiring and new twist throttle , I've checked and rechecked all connections
potentially good product spoilt by buggs

Hi Bwizz
what is your "enviroment" ans specs? I'd three and only one was faulty (which was mechanical, which is afaik not the main problem of GM). As you might have read the GM 48V spec is very opportunistic as most components (like the most likely failing 5V supply) is limited to 48V, lots of FETs and condensators are limited to 50/63V, which is easily reachable with newly charged Li-Ion (4.05V max and 16 cells= 64,8V max). A 50V FET can run for some time on overload, and not every C is exploding when reaching the max specified voltage, BUT (to bring one of my 'pictures' into here):
a standard VW Beatle can reach 260km/h, BUT Freefall is not the right enviroment for the commercial spec!
If you are willing to enhance the MP3 it seems best to choose an external controller with good spec. Some of the members here did it (and even advised me when my first one died) and have best experience with it. The BLDC is quite good in comparison to the cost shrinked controller. In my "Quality of MP" thread I listed most of the occured errors. Even with my bad experience with GMs Service (I know I'm pulling your leg), I'll stay with my two remaining MP3's and might change the electronic to some serious manufacturer, BECAUSE the MP1/2/3 is quite an experience when running as it should be.

Cheers
Sam

are you using the updated software for programing , works better than first software, don't know where I found it, Russian site I think , i've found for the cruise you cant be accelerating and you have to push the button for 4 or 5 seconds, feels like the processor is maxed under acceleration and is tempermental, the regen or breaking takes 4or 5 seconds to kick in and I don't pedal so don't know about pedelec

I'm using a 48 volt battery. the program and lead seem to work but don't give any indication that they are connected . If it works at all, a sharp jab on the cruise button seems best. I feel a bit safer now having fitted a cable disk rear brake ,can't rely on the elecronic to work.
golden motor don't seem interested in these issues, I've had no contact from them since having a replacement mp3 kit supplied." huge expense in returning and recovering from China"
Although fun when working ,far to many issues to recommend to anybody

Pedelec function only worked on one trip. Cruise control is hit and miss. internal brake is hit and miss.

Hi Brian, I found the pedelec function to be too strong and mine was also be a bit temperamental at times. I eventually removed it from my bike completely as the throttle control is much better.
However, I notice that the pedelec function was more consistent if the distance between the magnet ring and the sensor was as close as possible but without touching.  ;)

The throttle, pedelec, cruise control and brake switches all share a common ground connection, if there was an intermittent connection on the ground connection within the wiring harness it could easily cause the problems you are experiencing.

Do the brake levers still stop the motor from running even though the regenerative braking fails to work?

If I remove battery lead and replace, motor reverts to full power!

If by this you mean that the motor runs flat out without touching the throttle, this could also be caused by an intermittent ground connection, or rainwater in either the controller itself or the harness connectors.

The brake lever still disconnects the motor ,After removing the battery lead"To fit rear brake disc"
The power setting had reverted to full ,but did respond normally to the throttle, I have experimented with the pedalec settings "on the frame" it is also selected in the software, I might not like it but it wouold have been nice if it worked long enough to evaluate , new leads throughout, and not used in rain as the conntrolls are obviously not waterproof, ta for interest
