My MP III will not start - help!
« on: November 14, 2012, 08:55:30 PM »
Today I had I rather miserable day.  When I was riding the bike to work as usual, the MP III started to cut power, only for 2-3 seconds and then running for 4-5 seconds, and then off/on .. Very annoying.

I switched off the ignition, and pedaled to work (15 km)...  When I should return from work late afternoon, I switched on ignition key,, but the MP III was totally dead... I checked the wires and everything seemed okay... So I had to pedal back home another  15 km.. and the rain was pouring down  :(

Back home, I put the bike in the cellar so it could dry out. I then disconnected all wires which is connected to the main harness, then reconnected all wires again.. The three led lights lit up on the throttle but there was no response from MP3. (before that I recharged the battery).. I had a spare throttle and connected it to the harness , but no response from MP3.

I also tried to reduce the voltage from 48V to 24 and 36V. Also tried to reduce the current in the programming interface, but none of it worked. I have an org. GM 48V connected to the MP3.

So now I am out of ideas...  It could be the controller card I guess...  Could the harness itself be faulty?  Fortunately, it still under warranty .

Anyway I did some testing,,

I tested the battery, and the voltmeter shows 57.4 V.. I also took this test: http://www.goldenmotor.ca/FAQ/questions.php?questionid=102 - MP3 throttle test, which bypass the control harness, brake switches, throttle and cruise controls and simply checks the motor, controller and battery circuit .

The wheel did not run, and according to the writer of the article, the controller or the motor harness is faulty.

So I just ordered a new controller kit for my MP3...Hope this will solve the problem.. 8)

Terry would be keen to know if this fixed your problem.  I have exactly the same problem except I'm dual drive so wondering if I need to order (2) new controllers.

If it's under warranty why  did you purchase another controller?  Is the controller not part of the warranty?
