buying new spokes uk
« on: July 22, 2012, 08:20:56 PM »
I have been looking for ages.

can any body tell me where I can buy some new spokes in the UK for my mp2 26" wheel I believe they are 12/13gauge 110mm long.

I know Gary sells them but don't really want to ship them all the way from Canada.

Has any one found a UK source?

Many thanks in advance.

I know its in the uk, but Graham @ www.tillercycles.co.uk will cut custom spokes, payment by PayPal and I guess if you email him, he will tell you if he will send to Sweden.......

Go for the Sapim 13/14g strong spokes....very strong (1400N/mm2) and butted...rated for 1.6 million revolutions.

If you reverse all the spokes so their heads are on the inside, the spoke elbows are better supported against the flange and will be far less prone to failure due to elbow fatigue:

With the spokes fitted this way around, the wheel should be able to withstand greater lateral loads, so if you're using it on a trike or twin wheel trailer etc. I would strongly advise swapping the spokes around.

I've just been Googling this subject and came across Damon Rinard's Wheel Stiffness Test, and the results of his testing confirms that my comments regarding the reversed spokes being able to withstand greater lateral loads are indeed correct:
