ping lifepo4
« on: August 13, 2008, 08:56:18 PM »
ive been looking at the g/m ilfepo4 batt and thought I needed more amps as I cant pedal very hard(weak heart),plus the plastic case put me off.ive found ping batteries on ebay and bid for a 36v/16amp,which I got for $495 and no import tax. the batt weighs 13lbs with a bms and is 6x5.5x6 inch.i tested it today  for about 5 miles and I am so far impressed, compared to the sla's.the charger has a fan and two led's.its on charge now but the fan is not going and the led's are one green, one red,so I don't know if it charging or not-should the led's flash telling me the bms it ballancing the batt??
i will post more info as I test the batts which will go on a new Aluminium/front suspension bike when it comes.

My guess would be that the green light means it is done charging and no fan is going cuz it automatically shuts off when the charge cycle is complete.  At least that's how most I have seen and the one I have werq.

I'm kinda wondering where the price is going to end up.  I bought the same battery after christmas for $250usd and $80 shipping.  Since the price of fuel went up I see that shipping is now $180 and people bidding fantastic amounts of money for lifepo4 batteries.  I wonder if these batteries will make the Lithium market what lazers did to the price of rubys?

the bike and batteries are working faultlessly and im loving the bike more and more. I get about 23-25miles and the batts give there discharge right till the end. average speed between 18-22mph with little pedeling. did a trip to a friends ,along the coast road, pulling  a mule trailer with a rc helicopter, small lecky plane, batteries and bits -11miles in 32mins and a light head wind. the batts still showed full charge and took 2 hours to charge for the trip home.
i know I paid a few bucks more for my lifepo4 than g/m's but after hearing all the complaints about them , I know I did the right thing.
I was going to make a tricked up,blinged up, full floating suspension coolmobile but the bike theives around here would have loved to get there hands on it,so  I made a simple one to fool them
heres a pic----it would be good to see a photo of yours

This is what im waiting for! the price of lifepo4s to drop and a bit more please.  You can still pick up a car that need some work for the full price and effort it takes to build an Ebike or a pre bult one with lifepo4's with a good amp hour rating here in OZ.

But I wouldnt do ICE again even with my  36v 15kgs 18ah SLA's.

The trailers rock with EV's

Sorry for bad light

These bikes are awesome when you get them going right.

But I must of dragged back 40 kg aprox 80 lbs home after 21km (13 mile ride.)  Top speed for 36v with that trailer full on flats was about 31kph (19mph).

No voltage cut out on our few but steep, shortish hills.  I do live in sugar cane country.

BTW that saddle bag you gots is what im looking for atm whats its breed (brand)?
