250W output with a 750W motor
« on: June 29, 2011, 07:05:45 PM »
Hello, good men and women

Seems like my newly built e-bike won't perform nearly as I hoped for, and I hope you can help me figure out the solution.

I've had two kits from Golden Motor lying around, one was a 250W minimotor kit and the other was a 750W motor kit. Both had the cruise controller, but I fried the one that came with the 750W motor. The battery is 36v. Now I've mounted the 750W motor on my bike together with the throttle and cruise controller from the 250W mini motor. However, the motor outputs nowhere near 750W, more like 250W.

Is this because the cruise controller or the throttle from the 250W kit is being used? (I can't use the throttle from the 36V kit, since the connectors are older & different.)

Help will be much appreciated!

A label on the controller says 10A (I guess it's 36v x 10A = 360W). Which means I probably need a higher rated controller.

Or is there any way I can modify the one I've got?

Hi andto the forum.

It certainly sounds like the controller has been factory programmed for a 10Amp maximum output to avoid overloading the minimotor.

It might be possible to alter the maximum Amps by using the USB interface cable and free software on the GM website.

If that doesn't work, a new controller would be required.
