tried to use USB and now Magic pie barely works
« on: November 07, 2015, 04:45:54 AM »
Magic pie 5, I am still unclear on how exactly to program this, so just to try it out I set it to the default setting and now, it takes off with out any throttle when you turn it on; and it barely comes on at all.  I have a 48volt 10amp battery.  Any suggestions?  Kind of dangerous, and not any fun. :'(

I do not understand this at all.  I hook up the bike to the USB and it seems okay.  Then it just takes off on its own, and the throttle wont work.  All the setting are standard.

Also, before I plug the bike in, the program seems robust in its applications, but when I plug it in, most of the screen disapears and I am lieft with only two categories of programming.

My bike was working pretty good for the most part before I plugged in the USB cable. Any suggestions? Also, I tried to use the bike, and the motor makes a noise, but there is no response from the throttle. So the bike does not move.

Hi Chris,

It sounds like you are not having a lot of luck with programming your controller, are you using version V3.2.1 (b15-0209)?

As the program is universal for use with all of the Vector controllers, only the parameter sections that apply to a particular controller will be displayed once the controller is connected.
With the MP5's FOC (Vector) controller there should only be two sub-sections displayed:
  • Controller function settings
  • Controller Parameter settings

None of the user adjustable parameters should disable the throttle and enable the motor run on it's own, perhaps there is still a poor connection somewhere on the controller wiring which you might have disturbed while connecting the USB programming lead?

If the battery voltage is set incorrectly it can prevent the motor from working, so check that this setting is correct before clicking the "Download" button to save the settings to the controller.

Alan

Yes those are the two subsections displayed, I can connect, and download parameters, its just that the bike tool off on its own.  It bent the USB cable where it plugs in.  I did damage the wiring harness on the throttle, but I felt I fixed it.  I may have a problem in the line.  I have another motor I will try.

Thanks Alan

I hooked up to another MP and everything was fine.   8)  So any suggestions as to where my problem was? Short in wire?

I think it is most likely that the throttle signal wire is touching against the +5V feed somewhere in the motor harness, or there is a poor/broken connection on the throttle ground wire, as both of these faults could cause the motor to run on its own.
