Proper battery for 20 inch Smart Pie 4 BMX
« on: April 14, 2015, 07:46:44 PM »
Good afternoon folks,

I sent an email off to Gary earlier today before I had access to post on the forums, but figured others might be able to benefit from this as well. I did some searching on the forums re:battery requirements, but was only able to find it for the Magic Pie, which as I understand it has considerably higher power requirements.

I'm looking to convert a BMX with 20" rims to electric using the Smart Pie 4 rear wheel kit. Would a 48v 12Ah battery that is supposed to deliver a constant 15A and max 30A be sufficient for such a configuration? I'm looking at a bottle battery due to the fact that I am riding a BMX with a lower seat and the rectangular LiFePo batteries would not fit well.

I've heard that 20A is minimum for Magic Pie at 48v, but wasn't sure about the Smart Pie. Anyone have any idea?

Thanks!

B

That battery should be fine with a Smart Pie, especially as you have such small wheels as this will greatly reduce the actual load on the motor.

Terrific, thanks Alan. I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes with the conversion. I'm looking forward to it!

All the best,
