MP4 Vector issue ( DOA? )
« on: September 08, 2014, 11:13:48 AM »
Hi!

I am a long time lurker, but recently made the leap to purchase a new MP4. I have been aware of GM for a number of years, always wanting an ebike but never getting around to it!

My battery arrived last week, and today the wheel arrived! 700c, MP4 Vector.

I fitted the wheel to my bike, and the lights lit up, full charge. Turned the throttle: nothing! ( I can hear a very faint high pitch noise from the motor all the time, the throttle doesn't change the noise)

I also bought the programming cable, but after carefully following the instructions ( connect then wait for error, then power on etc ) nothing from that either.

The shipment was a bit damaged ( see pics attached ). I hope this can be sorted, I have emailed GM.

What I'm wondering is can anyone else shed some light on anything I can try?

My battery reads 53.1V.

Hi andto the forum.

It looks as if the box has been opened by customs and crudely taped back together again without refitting the packing in the correct place.

Your battery voltage seems ok if it's the LiMn water bottle type pack but is a bit low for the LiFePO4 rack mounted pack. I would recommend leaving it on charge for a at least three or four hours to ensure it is fully charged and nicely balanced to begin with.

If you have your brake levers plugged in but not yet connected to the brake cables, they levers often stick partially applied
and will prevent the motor from running.
Make sure they levers are fully released, or temporarily unplug them just to test the motor.

If you haven't yet connected the cruise control, make sure the throttle is plugged into the correct 5 pin connector and that none of the pins have been bent over inside the connector.

If the motor still fails to run it could be that the controller is set for the wrong voltage and your battery voltage may exceed the Overvoltage protection values of 36V for 24V batteries and 52V for 36V batteries.

I suggest you check out Gary's video to see how to check that you have the correct COM port selected.

Thanks!

I took it off the frame, pulled off the heat-sink, then decided not to pull it apart any further. When I put it back on the frame I gave it one last shot, and it worked!

My working theory is that the cutoff voltage was set too low in the settings. I tried it without any other cables plugged in except the throttle and it still didn't run.

The noise changed from a high pitch noise ( over load protection circut? - note VERY faint noise ), so a sort of 'click' when I turned the key.

It is a 48v LiFePO4 rack mounted pack, I pulled it off charge when the charger light turned green. I assume it would stop charging when the charger goes green?

Anyway, looking forward to going for a ride soon!
