Dual MPIII motor control switch
« on: October 28, 2013, 12:05:17 PM »
I have giant dual MP3 bike I ride a lot on the road,
with both the motors it is well and truly over the wattage restrictions.

I would like to have a switch/and easy way of turning off the rear motor to just run the front with low amp's to get close to the 300w legal limits.
Surely other people have done this, any ideas?

Hi Lazy,

My first thought is "  But Officer, the guy on the internet said they were only 300 Watts."

Have fun with your monster:)

TTFN,
Dennis

Hi Lazyrider andto the forum.

If you're using standard GM controllers, the easiest way to control the power output (and top speed) is by restricting the throttle signal output as shown in this diagram:

A double pole switch could be used to simultaneously reduce the power of one motor and completely disable the other, but you might need to fit a 12K resistor between the +5v and the throttle signal connection on the controller of the motor being disabled similar to this:

I have searched high and low for an on/on/on DPDT switch with no luck.
Anyone know where I can purchase one online ?

I guess you must have been searching high and low in the wrong place. ;)

I found loads of them on eBay:
DPDT ON-ON-ON switches
