Title: Potentially upgrading an MPII by implanting an EZ A48400
Post by: Brzoom on May 21, 2025, 04:57:05 PM
I want to know what the insides of the A48400 look like to estimate if it can be implanted instead of the old controller. Either way, I had to open my MP2 up because the insulation of the wires exiting the axle was cut clean to the copper. Also wondering if the stator armature can be used as ground, since that would save significant space in the axle conduit and allow for a thicker + wire, with reinforced insulation.

Hi and(https://i.imgur.com/evDSMvT.png)to the forum.

I don't know what's inside the EZ A48400 but I'm guessing it will be too big to fit inside the Pie.

Previous power upgrades for the MPII involved rewiring the motor to use an external Infineon controller. Check out this thread (https://goldenmotor.com/SMF/index.php?topic=3002.msg18087#msg18087) for more information.

Although it may well be possible to use the stator/axle as a ground connection, it is unlikely to help very much if you end up using an external controller, as this would only require a thin ground wire for the Hall Sensors.

After watching a teardown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-wjHhTsgww (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-wjHhTsgww) of a similar looking controller, I think I'll chicken out and cut my losses.
