I have just installed the motor and thumb throttle working fine but PAS does not seem to work, cant use cruise control either, any one else had this issue
-
Cruise control operation
To operate the cruise control, adjust the throttle to the desired speed and then press (and release) the cruise control button. If you release the throttle, the motor should continue to run at the set speed, press the cruise button again (or apply the brakes) to disengage the cruise control.
Make sure the connector plug for the cruise/horn button is pressed fully into the mating socket.
Check out this thread (https://goldenmotor.com/SMF/index.php?topic=6286.msg34979#msg34979) for more details on the PAS operation.

is the PAS a part of this rear wheel unit or do I have to buy the Pedelec separate?
-
No, the PAS a not part of the rear wheel unit, a separate Pedelec sensor needs to be fitted on the bottom bracket to allow the pedal speed to be monitored by the controller in order for the PAS function to work:

It connects to the Red, Black, and Yellow wires on the unused wire coming from the motor harness:

You can find the sensor pictured above at the bottom of the e-Bike-DIY page (https://www.goldenmotor.com/e-Bike-DIY/DIY-ebikekit.php) on the GM website.

so does this mean not only I need to purchase the sensor but also a smart display? or does this work without smart display to change power settings, all seems a bit vague
i take it this is the same one

The BAC-601 Smart Display can be used to alter the level of assistance while riding (modes 1-5) or turn it off altogether (mode 0).
The pedelec should still work without the Smart Display, but you will be limited to a single level of assistance that is active all the time.
A switch can be installed to turn the assistance on or off if required
The level of assistance can still be adjusted using the USB programming lead (or the Bluetooth dongle and a suitable phone) to suit your preference.
The motor assistance power will still vary according to your pedal rpm even with a single fixed level, so greater assistance can be achieved by simply changing to a lower gear so that the pedals turn faster.
Those sensors should be compatible with the GM controller (but not the connectors) although it doesn't say whether the output signal is a series of high/low pulses or a variable voltage.
The GM pedelec produces pulses for the pedelec signal, but a variable voltage unit can be used instead of a throttle provided that it is connected to the throttle signal wire instead of the pedelec signal wire, as it supplies a variable voltage which is similar to the Hall sensor throttle output.
Were you able to get your cruise control working?

thanks for that,
the cruise control works ok now as I taped the plug to the bars and it was slightly out when I taped it, pushed it home and thats working fine now
is there somewhere in the UK I can order the GM sensor, tried one site and they wanted silly postage costs
didn't think the connectors made any difference as from what I have read the tail wire is just bare with no connector so you would have to add your own anyway, or am I missing something, apart from my marbles
-
My Magic Pies that were supplied with pedelec sensors came with matching connectors, but kits supplied without pedelec do not always have the connector fitted.
It is probably easier to cut the connector off and solder the wires and safely insulate them for a better and more water resistant joint.
I don't know how many of the UK based GM dealers (https://www.goldenmotor.com/contact/dealer.html) will keep these sensors in stock, so it might be worth a quick phone call to find out.
I found this one on eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electric-Bike-Bicycle-Pedal-Assist-Sensor-PAS-UK-Stock-/232427139741) for £9.99 with free delivery (might be worth asking them if it will work with a Smart or Magic Pie).

cheers for the help, built many a motor bike but this lecy bike game is new to me, its all science I tell ya :P
i will buy that its worth a stab for £9.99 got some fine heat shrink from the metal detector I built so will just tape it and try , if ok then solder and heat shrink it
