Title: My SP4 stopped working -high pitched whine when battery connected
Post by: Thuktun on May 24, 2015, 10:47:25 PM
SP4, 3x12v10Ah. It was working fine, I rode it home from work yesterday, charged the battery last night. Turn it on today, nothing. Well, not nothing, the throttle LEDs light up, and when I test the battery with a DMM I get 39.8v, and there is a high pitched whine that ramps up in pitch until it's nearly inaudible when the battery is first connected. There is no response from the throttle. I tried disconnecting the brakes and no difference.

I'm also unable to connect the USB. First I connect the USB, then start the software, set COM and hit connect. Wait for timeout and apply power then it connects. Sometimes. Sometimes the timeout window pops up repeatedly many times a second, sometimes it connects but when I try to download changes to the controller I get a timeout error.

Sorry, it's upload parameters successful that pops up repeatedly on connect.

Is this whine normal? I didn't notice it before but it is faint and there was background noise the other times I connected it. Ive only had it working since Wednesday, I rode it 6 times.

The only time I've experienced this was when I was testing with different battery configurations and I had an intermittent connection on a badly burnt battery connector.

It's not that, throttle lights are steady and I measured with a DMM all the contacts, all the voltages are right.  I ordered a new controller, I must have done something to fry it but I don't know what. The warranty process will cost me more then just buying it since without the bike I have to taxi to work so I bit the bullet and just bought it.
