Title: Smartpie with Kelly KBS48051
Post by: Kris on August 16, 2013, 08:11:37 AM
I've wired an older style SmartPie (the type without an internal controller) to a Kelly controller with a 58.4v battery. The motor runs OK & responds to the analogue throttle but is very 'growly' compared to the internal controller Smartpies I've setup in the past. Phases are correct (motor runs in the correct direction) & 120 degree hall senders are working (Kelly not flashing any error codes on it's red diagnostic led). Just wondering if I've missed something?

Have tried playing with throttle response timing?

Tried varying that, no difference. Motor draws >20A at full throttle but has no torque. Sometimes won't start without giving it a flick to get it turning.

Disconnected motor from Kelly & wired to smartpie internal controller, works like a dream. Does anybody know if wire colour codes are standardised across the different manufacturers? The smartpie is using blue-green-yellow for the motor phases same as the Kelly so I connected like colours. Hall sensor wise the smartpie uses blue-green-yellow with 5v on red & 0v on black so I wired like colours together & picked up the 5v supply on the appropriate Kelly colours.

Try this:

Kelly controller-------------Motor Phase
A-------------------------------yellow
B-------------------------------blue
C-------------------------------green
Hall Sensors
Hall A-------------------------yellow
Hall B-------------------------blue
Hall C-------------------------green

OK, wiring all sorted. My problem now is the analog regen function. Can't get regen to track brake hall sensor output, seems limited to 20% (the release throttle regen mode limit) or maybe 50% (brake switch only regen limit). What a bugger I only went to all this trouble with an external controller to get analog regen.

Ah ha programming trouble! Analog regen now works nicely. Had to make up a little transistorised brake switch interface because I didn't want to have to press a button as well as wind on the brake & that is working too. Think I'll quit while I'm ahead. Well maybe have a little play now with the 3 running modes, torque, balanced & speed. Happiness is stuff that works.

Yeah I hope those three nodes are working.
When I had Magic Pie 3 only balanced mode was working.

But now I have Crystalyte everything is working fine :P

Bit too subtle for me, all 3 modes seem pretty much the same. (http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l590/krismclean/1308Mk3_zps36cd9ccf.jpg) (http://s1125.photobucket.com/user/krismclean/media/1308Mk3_zps36cd9ccf.jpg.html)
