Title: MPIII Spec Question
Post by: Pzal123 on May 27, 2012, 01:58:41 AM
Hi guys, new member here. Im considering buying a MPIII kit to install on my existing electric bike. It was specifically manufactured as an ebike by a company called "Strong", who are now defunct. I haven't been able to find dimensions on the MPIII axle, specifically will be able to be mounted in a frame that has a distance of 7 inches/178mm between mount points?

Thx in advance

Paul

On the lower right side of the big ad at the top of the GoldenMotor.com site it says they are 100mm or 135mm to fit any frame.

Hi Paul and(https://i.imgur.com/evDSMvT.png)to the forum.

Dennis is correct, the MPIII axle is 14mm diameter with 10mm wide flat ends and the rear is designed to fit a standard 135mm wide dropout.
You could probably add some spacers to enable it to fit a maximum gap of ~145mm before you run out of sufficient thread to securely tighten the axle nuts correctly.

Unfortunately your 7" gap is going to be about an inch too wide for the MP's axle.
If it's a steel frame, you might be able to reduce the width of the dropouts by at least an inch by gently bending the frame together using some threaded rod and a couple of nuts, but you must not try to bend an aluminium frame unless you really don't care if it breaks!
