Title: how do I get the longest life out of lithium batteries?

my vehicle uses a 48 volt 20 AH battery and gets a 30 mile range.....shall I charge the battery after even a short trip....or delay charging until i've gone 25 miles or so?

What kind of lithium battery do you use?

If you are using LiFePo4 it should be not matter.

Other battery types like LiPo are more sensitive. For a long life they should be operated in a range of 20% to 80%.

Always Charge your battery at least once a month if not in regular use.

Enjoy using them and don't run them down to flat if you can avoid it.
