HELLO
between the Magic Pie and the 48V1000W kit
what would be your choise
which is the most powerfull
and which is the fastest ?
what main differences between the two ?
thanks
fred

speed has been reported to be a bit faster on the 48v1000w kit,
and better hillclimbing on the mp.
But those differences are only notacible if you have both
-
i had the very same dilema before buying a kit. I got a Magic Pie in the end but was not impressed by the hill climbing, my rear motor will die on steep hills without pedalling. I now have front and rear pies connected to one battery and the difference is unbelievable.
I have not tried the 48v/1000w motor so I cannot really comment. Build wise the HBS 1000w will be a little lighter but the power cable will come out of the axle and not the hub as in the MP. there is the choice of the internal controller on the MP if you want to build a neat discrete bike. The HBS 1000 is probably a little quieter and I believe it to be faster. I did read somewhere that someone had tried both and the 1000 HBS was faster and better on hills than his friends MP??
I have tried looking at the pdf performance files on GM's website in the hub motor section and i'm sure the 1000w HBS has a better torque performance?? try looking yourself. On the motor comparison page it gives the torque/power figures for all the motors apart from the MP which just says "coming soon", Hmmmm.....
If you can afford it get two pies and wire to one battery ;D

My 48v1000w motor is definatly faster then My dual pie. But it is also running on an older controller before the amps were pulled back at the factory. I wonder if I tried that controller on my dual pie. Actually I have 2 bikes with the older controllers. Maybe I'll try those on my dual. See how that performs. More testing! Yay! Now if only all this snow would .....

I second that! If you want crazy power its a fun way to go!

HELLO
are the wires of the 48V1000W kit going out of the whell the same way it does on the pie ?
or is it going out on the same direction of the axle
hope it's clear enough
thanks

HELLO :D
No, they are not unfortunately.. Check this post (http://goldenmotor.com/SMF/index.php?topic=354.0) for some more info there.
If you make some protection, even a spring sliding into the axle would be a good idea. Most hubs with the wire coming from the axle have this now anyway.
One of these (http://cgi.ebay.com/Black-Strength-MTB-Bicycle-Bike-Derailleur-Protector-/320644331343?pt=AU_Sport_Cycling_Accessories&hash=item4aa7e4374f) would protect it should your bike fall over or knock something. So if it's protected I wouldn't see it as a problem :)

hello
between 48V1000W kit and MP kit
which is the most nervous ?
thanks
fred

Gee that's a tough one!
Can't say for sure, my MagicPie wheel has not asked out many girls yet so its either nervous or something else...
;)

Not sure what your question is Fred. Can you try again using a different word other then nervous?
Gary
-
hello
by nervous I want to say
reacting
fast reacting to want we want him to do
is that ok ?
thanks

The Magic Pie has more torque. It has stronger acceleration... (reacting?)

that's it thanks

hi, my external controller can't give me more 600 watts...?
i try all setting, alls fonctions gones but whit 30A in continus and 50A max he can't give me more 600 watt and 13AH...
i believe he as a problem and i'm cursed whit golden motor products... :'(

salut lolo
I had 2 pies one with internal and other with external controller
the internal seemed more powerfully than the external
and finally the external controller died
ordered a new and surprise : both pies are now as powerfull as each other
I guess the first controller had some trouble
but other surprise : the new controller doesn't make rege ! but the first did and my internal does !! strange !
fortunately I don't need it cos it was too strong for this bike that carries my two children : the brake was much too strong and didn't want to " enter" the controller : do not touch to that works as good as you like !!!!! ohhhh noooooo

lolo.

Lolo,
I hope the shunt mod gives you the performance you are looking for, please let us know how well it works.

salut lolo
courage

the shunt is the solution...!!!!
I have 1600 Watt it's ok
i think it's just a bren new no finish controller...
-
and it's not really the post but this is my PAS connection... Because I did not receive it, and when I asked for it to Tom.......silence
-
YOUPEEEEEEEEEEE !
alors tu restes finallement ?
so it's repaired and now : I want to ride my bicycle , I want to ride it now
;D
cool

Great News Fred!

Glad to hear of your success, I hope it holds out for you!
I may have to try this someday. modify the shunt to increase the amps then pull it down to what you actually want. It sounds perfect. Of course as a dealer I can't warranty such a mod but it does seem interesting.

LOLO
thanks for the explanation
fred
-
Yes that it...

question to guys that have made a shunt for much powerfull controller :
does that work properly? any trouble?
how long have you done that and what kind of problem did you get?
thanks

Hi Fred and all
Shunt bypass is fine up to a point !(controller standard is for high reliability ,,,,my recondations if you do it !order up a 3rd party controller ready for when it fails )
Controller will get hotter than normal (more cooling or bigger heatsink or both (hardrive fan ) I have not done shunt bypass but if I push standard controller for 45 mins hard I can get it into thermal shutdown 6 beeps with no ventilation too hot to touch !
Beware you could blow the controller .....and later you probly will do !

hi
in fact I think I won't do the shunt but use another stronger controller
not to strong just enough to get fun
how many amps do you think I can use without burning everything?
I know some guys use infineon or Kelly controllers but I do not know if this lasts or fail with time

Hi Kmleon and all
(Gary at GM canada) says all his ones get 24/25 amps (cuise controller)
the last 3 I bought. I only get 16/17 amps (that makes 50% of power to Pro 901 50% Nm torque
same as (Who42)
I dought or unlikely burn out standard cruise controller (unmoded) it will resrict power available (an not make MP or Pro .....SHINE as they can )
(i wonder how they got the test figure's for MP with internal controller ? {they had to test it with what controller inside ?}Uhmmmmm
motors will take the stated Amps (but unless you are going uphill non stop or have so much weight on the bike) you will not hit max amps for long spells, it will peak and go down as momentum picks up)
From what I have seen in motor tables data they can run about 75% all the time and go to 100% intermitantly (like hard exceleration uphill from stop ! )
(so think like this if you have 2 motors and 2 controllers all standard and a battery which can give 2x50% of Amps you would get nearly the same as one motor running 100% unrestricted on a controller that can give 100% peak demand apart from wheel spin !)
