HI :)
My ex-bf just got this thing for my bike that is supposed to make it so my bike doesn't go too fast. We broke up and I never want to talk to him again so I can't ask him. There's this thing that looks like a USB cable. Is that what makes it slow down? Anyways, I went to the website and saw this program that's supposed to tell something (the USB thingy maybe?) what to do. I downloaded the program, plugged in the USB cable thing to my computer but nothing happened. Did I do something wrong? I know my computer works fine since other stuff I plug in works fine. I really need to get this bike to be able to move slow and not go so fast because I can't lift it and it needs to go up and down a few steps. HELP!

Amy unless you know a little about electronics you may need help.
Two ways that are easy enough.
A diode or resistor
There are three wires that come from the throttle. They are red, black, and green or blue. Not the black and red but cut this green wire and solder a resistor or a diode in to rejoin it so to drop the voltage from the throttle to the controller.
A diode has to be facing the right direction so it wont block your throttle, it has a line which must point towards the controller and a resistor goes either way. Every controller is different to you may need to try a couple of ways.
The diode method will give you quite a bit of speed decrease without too much fussing around as it will drop up to .8 of a volt or use a schottky diode for a .5v drop.

Uh...I'm a psych major, lol. I don't know anything about electronic stuff. I'm pretty good with computers so that's why I looked at the software on the website that said it was supposed to program the control thing. I figured I could ask a math major friend what numbers to put in the boxes to get the result I want. Didn't seem to be too hard. Sounds like the software doesn't really work, right? So the control thing has to be modified?
Does anyone know anything about the software?

I don't know if this is important, but I found these numbers on a sticker that's on a gray box that says golden motor. My ex left the cable hanging out of this box. The sticker says MX- 24c-EB-v 2.0.
I plugged the cable into my computer. When I entered numbers in the software screen and pressed a button, nothing happened. I checked to make sure my computer knew there was a USB device plugged in. It showed the device but there is a question mark next to the icon and the error message said there was no driver for the device. Does anyone know how to make the software work?

Hi and welcome Amy.
Does you bike have the Padal Assist System which automatically powers up the motor when you pedal, or is it just that the throttle is too sensitive and making it go too fast?
I haven't seen any reports from anyone who has been successful in connecting and reprogramming the controllers as yet, but that doesn't mean that it won't be able to work eventually.
I't certainly does sound like a specific driver is required for the operating system to recognise the hardware correctly, but unfortunately there is still no reply from GM regarding this matter as yet, so we will just have to wait and see.
If your bike does have pedal assist and is fitted with a separate throttle, you could simply try unplugging the pedal assist sensor to see if it helps, or just try not use so much throttle if it doesn't.
Sorry we can't help any more at this stage, but it's early days for this interface cable and we haven't been given enough information on it.

I don't have the pedal assist. The motor just sort of races.
Sucks about the software >:( I thought it would be easier. Guess I'll just have to wait <sigh>
It's mostly reverse that's the problem. I need it to back up slower :)

Immed / Unimmed ? What dose this mean A: Immed: allows reverse to be selected Immediately.
Unimm: will only allow reverse to be selected after the motor has stopped.
Regen Brake ? A: Set Regerative braking percentage.

My wife uses a 60v bike now. You can adjust the way you ride easy enough until you figure out how to slow it down. She just uses the power when she needs it, she never needs to full throttle at all.
When you're used to it being slow the adjustment period to fast isnt too long. It just means you have to not go full throttle.
I put a 1k resistor on my throttle and the bike is more efficient but it doesn't take much top speed off, if any :P.
Yeah it depends on what voltage your bike is. If its really fast you may need 1.5k.

Wow the regen is variable to in software setting, anyway to control this off a pin?
Regen percentage would be handy if there were a guide to parameters or presets for different packs.

It sounds more like a problem with the sensitivity of the throttle at slow speeds, as too much power is being applied too easily.
A simple restrictor (which could be simply switched on when needed) might be more suitable and should be relatively simple to install.
A 5K variable resistor fitted into the throttle signal lead (the green or white lead) would give variable power (and speed) restriction. A switch could be fitted to bypass (short circuit) the resistor for normal operation.

I am using 3.5k of resistance on my throttle now.
I can go up to 52kph at 60 v and the resistor slows my bike down to 40kph.
How fast can your bike go?
What controller do you own. One of these?
