Title: BROKE SPOKE help please GM HBS-48V 1000W
Post by: General_Leo on March 04, 2010, 09:37:22 PM
The bike shop stripped a spoke on my HBS-48V 1000W Golden Motor wheel while trying to dish the wheel over to the center of the frame.

It's a standard 26" wheel that I suppose came with the kit. Also, the bike shop said the length is about 163mm and about 2.5-2.8mm dia. I'll need a nipple too.

What size and Where can I find a replacement?

Any help is GREAATLY appreciated.

Hi and welcome Leo,

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the spokes are 12 gauge (2.6mm) but may have a reduced thread to enable smaller 13 gauge nipples to be used to fit the rims. I'm guessing that these spokes are specially manufactured to suit these hubmotors and are not likely to be available from any of the popular bike shops. A bike shop who specialises in electric bikes may be able to help, but I think you will probably need to get the correct spoke and nipple from GM (Unless one of their dealers has a damaged wheel to take one off).

Dang, I hope I can get them somewhere in the US.....maybe I can use a regular 12 gauge spoke with a 12 gauge nipple and bore out the hole in the rim a little.....thoughts?

They can cut normal 12 gauge spokes and make a new thread. Both common spokes and the thread tool can be find! Unless the thread is not standart, but I bet it is a standart type of thread.

Check out http://www.electricrider.com/crystalyte/parts.htm (http://www.electricrider.com/crystalyte/parts.htm) and scroll down to the spokes section. I believe they are in the US.
