Title: Building a wheel for a 1000W GM hub motor
Post by: scd on July 31, 2009, 11:48:12 PM
I bought a 1000W GM hub motor and I need to build a 26" wheel
What rim and spoke length combinations have people used to build wheels?

I have heard that the Weinman DM30 rim and 12 gauge 170mm Sapim stainless spokes from Danscomp work well
Are there other rim/spoke combinations that have worked well for people?

Thanks,
Scott

Scott,

I realise this is not exactly what your looking for, but these links from the GM website may be worth a visit anyway:

Spoke length calculator (http://www.sapim.be/index.php?st=spokelength)

Measuring Bicycle Rim Sizes (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/rim-sizing.html)

Scott,

I am using the DM-30's and 165mm Straight Gauge DT "Champion" 14g spokes with no failures yet. I'd be more comfortable with a heavier gauge but have had difficulty locating reliable sources in the US that have the sizes I need.

Have a good one,

Darkfool

Hello Darkfool:

The 165mm 14G spokes use in 1000W Rear Hub?.

Thanks
