what motor is on that new Elegant-08 ?
« on: May 23, 2008, 04:25:57 PM »
I really like the look of that Elegant-08
I am going to assume I cannot afford the entire bike
but what is that slim/trim motor on the front hub?

It doesn't look like the other motors for sale
and I am wondering if I can buy a 26" wheel with it?

Thats a hub motor with a planetary gear.  Like Heintzman or Rayben.  I rode a Heintzman once, there a little noisy.  They engage with a lurch.  And it was very expensive.  The Raybens have a website you can google.  They are also on ebay.ca for I think 350US plus shipping, including 3X12v-12Ah SLA battery. I think they are 250watts so the speed is slightly less than GM.  They look really nice. Draggin

Thank you, I will definitely google for them as that's also my newbie starter price range.

Will that kind of hub have a side benefit of also freewheeling?

Absolutly.  The rayben website says that if you are willing to ease up on the throttle they'll go 50km!

I actually contacted them (via ebay) and they say it does not freewheel.

Given my budget I may have to just give up on the idea of a freewheel hub as I see they are very expensive.

I may just go the direct drive route since they are apparently silent and if it doesn't freewheel, all the gearing offers otherwise is faster acceleration?

How about this, buy the golden motor kit to put on your bike now, and ask Santa for a nice 36v 15Ah LiFePo4.  When you are done you will have a nice bike with serious performance and only spend one third of the cost of the bike in the picture.  Draggin.
