Even peddling I max out at 6 miles using 12AH with a return trip carrying an additional 30 to 60 lbs on top of the 220 I already weigh. It could be the quality of the Universal batteries but 6 is the max for me before the controller starts cutting out on 300 ft x 30 ft inclines at dips below 31.5 volts.

6 Miles is much less than I was hoping to hear.  It seems everyone has different results, which is to be expected, with differing weights and type of route.  I will have to wait and see if the SLAs will do what I need them to.
Has anyone read about the firefly battery by Caterpillar Co?  They will be producing a lead acid battery with a carbon foam core, which they claim will have 4 times the capacity of a similarly sized normal lead acid battery.  The only questions are when it will become available and cost.
