vec300 / 5kw air cooled bldc settings check?
« on: July 11, 2020, 08:12:15 AM »
hey fabulous people,

like said in a previous thread I sadly burned out my first 5kw air cooled GoldenMotor I put in my transport motorcycle conversion.

i finally got my new motor from China and I just wanted to run my current settings past you all to see if there is something I can still tweak to prevent further burnouts?

i have a 2/1 gear reduction through a planetary gearbox on a relatively heavy vehicle (270 kilo's without driver or load) so probably the main problem generating too much heat was that I previously did enable the EBS system which I now have disabled. But any further input is much appreciated. I run on 72v from 6 deepcycle AGM batteries.

note; these settings are already revised from my previous settings which burned out my previous engine, besides disabling the EBS I lowered the current phase amps by a lot, maybe by too much, so thats a thing to maybe look at?

Hi Jop, here are my suggestions:

Decrease the maximum phase current duration and increase the maximum phase current:
maximum phase current duration (s): 10.0 5.0
rated phase current: 80.0 250.0

Lower the battery current to the rated setting:
battery drawn current limit: 135.0 100.0 (that's still 7.2kW @72V)

Lower each of the temperatures at which current limiting/motor protection occurs:
motor current limit temperature (level 1): 120 110
motor current limit temperature (level 2): 130 120
maximum motor protection temperature: 150 140

80% of your forward speed seems very fast for reverse:
backward speed ratio: 80 50 or even 25 or lower?

Now you have the temperature protection enabled, it should not be possible to overheat the motor.  ;)
