Cannot connect to VEC-300 Controller
« on: August 09, 2015, 07:21:58 AM »
Hi!

My name is pete and I am still at work at a electric motorbike. I bought a vdc-300 controller and a motor hmp-5000 48 volt.

So, I am ready for the first ride but I can not connect by pc to the controller to change some settings.
Problem so far is, when I turn the throttle the motor starts for a second and suddenly stops.
I think this happens because of under voltage and now I would like to change the settings.

I use the driver CH342SER and the PI-800 software.
If I try to connect I receive one of booth message:

Please connect the device first

or

no response because of timeout

Can anybody help me?

Kind regards

Pete

Hi Pete andto the forum.

Have you selected the correct COM port from the drop down menu?

You can check under the "Ports (COM & LPT)" section in "Device Manager" to see if the device is being correctly recognised and which COM port has been allocated to it.
You should see something like "USB-SERIAL CH340 (COM10)" if it is properly recognised.

If the device is not being recognised, try plugging it into another USB port to see if it makes any difference.
Connection problems can sometimes be sorted by using another laptop or PC. ;)

If the device is showing correctly and the correct COM port has been selected, check out Nick's post for more information that might help.

Hello!

And thank you for the fast reply!

Yes, of course, I can see the device in my hardware-manager and it seems to work. Also, if I try another usb port at my laptop the software pi-800 switch the usb-port also.
Sometimes I can change the usb-port in the software does not work....  :-[

Yesterday in the evening I took my fathers laptop and tried it again, but I get the same result.
No connection to the controller....

I will try today in the evening this solution, hope it will work...  :)

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete,

You will need to email David at GM China and ask for his advice.
His email address is:

Please let us know what the outcome is.

Hello again!

One more simple (stupid  :) ) question: The motor HPM-5000 / 48V - is this a brushless motor???

And second, whats the difference between controller VEC-300 and HPC-300 H?

I cannot found any information about that.

Kind regards

Pete

Hi Pete,

The HPM5000B is definitely a brushless motor. ;)

The VEC-300 is the newer type Vector controller which uses Sine wave power pulses that make the motor much quieter under load.

The HPC-300H is older style controller which uses square wave power pulse switching which is less gentle and tends to make the motor sound noisier under load.

Both types of controllers still use Hall effect sensors for positional feedback from the motor.

Thank you!

Yes, I forgot to complete my question. I would like to know where are the advantages of brushless motor?

Sorry  :)

The biggest advantage with a brushless motor is that it is "brushless".

As the brushless motor has no commutator or spring loaded carbon brushes constantly rubbing against it that eventually wear out and suffer from poor contacts which causes arcing etc., the performance of the motor is more efficient and also more consistent throughout its working life.

Also, there are no serviceable or moving parts to replace (except the motor bearings themselves).
