How may Goldenmotor employees can you fit into a electric passenger trike? Anyone know the number for Guiness Book of Records?

The answer is ... many many.

there were 5, given 5000W, so if you plug in the 10 000w that's coming out soon, then you can fit 10 ppl in. That's better than a BMW!

whwre is that 20 kW motor???

why use diferential and gears? I would like to see some stronger hub motors with stator shaft on one side only ( like Model: HUB24S -- 8" Mono Shaft Motor) and with inbuilt controller, brakes...
that would really make conversion easyer

can that drivetrain be wider?

does engine power depend on overheeting , so it is 5kW continuos and 20kW for short bursts???
does the controler have regenerative braking or do I have to buy some kind of regen controler?

Most GM motors I have learned support voltages way over their specs.

Say on a 5kw E-car the driver can sit there full throttle all the way home and feel little heat come from the motor.  Where as the 20kw car may not need so much acceleration for the whole trip and heat becomes less an issue.

Even in an ICE car nobody pushes the pedal to the floor for a whole trip.


I can not definitively answer if there are two motors a 48v and a 72v version as this maybe the case.  

If the motors are the same, some work with wind resistance and weight would be required on faster vehicles but I assume these vehicles require some good engineering skills to achieve max efficiency, reliability and safety.

I believe the controllers for these motors are not regen and wouldn't advise using just any controller without testing the impedances of the motor phases.

Like you cant run a 4 ohm speaker on a amplifier designed for an 8 ohm load you may run into trouble with this motor on any random controller.

Do your homework first.

The higher the voltage, the lower the current for the same power.
If you want to get 2000W out of the motor, then at 48V you get about 42Amps.

If you want to get 6000W then at 48 you would have to draw 125Amps,
but with the 72V source you get  around 80Amps.

Generally speaking you get the best efficiency when the amperage is near the
voltage, but you also have some advantage in keeping the current lower.
(easier on the batteries, less weight in wiring, less expense in components.)

Heat is a byproduct of inefficiency.  The power is literally Volts x Amps - heat loss.
If you are well tuned (voltage near current) you get maximum efficiency.

You get to control the voltage, and load indirectly controls the current.  If you apply
a load that needs 1000W, you must supply a voltage to the controller such that the
voltage times the current is (about) 1000.

No, but there are some recommended third party controllers with regen.  Yao can help you
pick one that is appropriate.

From what I have been reading, the regen is not very efficient (<17%) and you are limited by
what your battery can absorb, where dumping a large current into the battery will shorten its life.

For the e-bikes, regen is pretty much on or off, so it's not much use for me.

Kelly actually makes and suggests a great controller for their hub motor.

Yes, they are expensive, but you have to consider just how many of them you want to build.
One really good one, or several that almost work and one that does.

There is only few things I don't understand:

Is there proof in phisics for that or you know that from expirience,or is it just for that motor?

and I read on this forum that some guy with two 1kW hub motors got same regen power from them,
so wouldn't that burn the motors , it is about 6kW of heat per motor, right?

It's been a lot of years since I was in school, but somewhere I learned that you maximize energy transfer by keeping the
voltage and current near each other.  I don't think it is specific to any particular motor.

The goal of regen is supposed to be to put the braking energy back into the battery.
You are kind of right, the rest of that energy is put into heat, but not all of it is heat in the motor.
The loss is measured in converting kinetic energy to stored energy.
The loss goes into heating the tire at the road, heating up the electrical and electronic parts, and dumping power into the battery by heating up the pack.

This kit would work better for a ground up design (as would the motor-in-wheel design). 

Most of the conversions being done now use 9 inch brushed DC motors coupled to 2 speed transmissions from model A fords.

They then use the stock driveshaft and differential (in RWD applications.)

A brushless DC motor with a regen controller would be a big improvement on this.


There is also demand for electric vacuum pumps and AC compressors.

if a GM guy is online, I would be really interested knowing roughly the price of the axle because it is not indicated on the site.
I already know the price of motor and controler but not the axle.
also nice to know approx price for shipping to Europe
