Title: Waterproof case for VEC Controller
Post by: Pedrotorres on February 15, 2019, 02:43:22 PM
Hello all,

My setup is a HPM3000 48V motor and a VEC240 controller. My application to use it on a boat as an outboard. On this, I am assuming that this controller is not waterproof and I wonder wether is possible to enclose this controller in a sealed waterproof box without consider any overheat effects. Any thoughs on the ventilation requirements (considering the huge heatsink this controller has)?

Hi Pedro and(https://i.imgur.com/evDSMvT.png)to the forum.

As the controller's heatsink is responsible for the majority of the controller's cooling, a water cooled heat sink plate could be installed inside the waterproof box to ensure that the controller is sufficiently cooled inside the sealed box:

Using an aluminium box would also help to dissipate any additional heat that was not directly absorbed by the cooling plate.
