MP3 Failed Hall Sensor
« on: October 08, 2012, 07:22:46 AM »
Has anyone encountered a failed hall sensor on a Magic pie 3 yet?

I believe I have, one failed senso on my 16 inch front MP3, and I was wondering how I might go about getting replacement hall sensors that fit and will work.

If you haven't actually tested the hall sensors to see if they are working, I suggest you take a look at this post and this video for more details on testing the operation of the hall sensors.

If it is a faulty sensor, the Honeywell ss41 hall sensor is commonly used as a replacement and can be purchased from most electrical component suppliers, but if you can't find them at your local supplier, check out this post on ES regarding purchasing hall sensors.

I have tested as per Bikemads instructions.
The green and blue hall sensors work properly like the video suggests.
The yellow hall sensor is stuck on 4.5 volts.

A busted hall sensor methinks.

Hi there,

i tested my halle sensors according to the youdtube video.
these are my resulsts :
blue :4.84 max
green 5.01 max
yellow 0.11 and it's stationary (wont change when wheel is turned)
red 4.26 also stationary (wont change when wheel is turned)

does this mean that I got at least 2 hall sensors broken?
and I fthey are, are they easy to replace?
i like a youtube video on how to do that if possible

how many hall sensors are there anyway in the MP3 and should I replace all just to be sure?

thanks for any answer...

greetz,
Thomas

Hi there,

i opend up my pie and found that there are 3 sensors.
i've ordered 3 new ones, so i'll be trying to fix it.
there seems to bee little place to solder it, are there any other methods to connect them? maybe superglue and then solder ?
I've noticed that the sensors are glued to the wheel, how can I get them of without damaging the wheel?

thanks for the answers.
