Everything about that recording sounded normal (similar to mine) except the high tinny pitch at ~8 seconds (at maximum RPM.)

You can set the max on the controller to be just below that RPM. Load may help.

sound file attached, running with no load, from zero to about 4500 RPM

The motor is running by itself - water pump off, gearbox disconnected.

With my stethoscope, it sound like the noise is coming from the upper area of the motor ( opposite the output shaft.
Unless there is some way that mis wiring would cause such a noise, I think I'll have to pull apart the motor and check the bearings.
Its out of warranty.

Wonder if anyone has an exploded view of the motor.

What sound is it making?  And where is the noise coming from:  electric motor noise, Gear noise, battery noise, water pump noise,Controller noise,...?

I have the air controlled version of that setup and at full speed it is barely above 40 DB.

I need help again.   I've given up on the curtis ET-134 and will be using a 10KOhm Potentiometer and some switches and I have a couple (More) questions.

Is there a configuration of the throttle wires (black/white), (green/white) and (red/white) that can be managed by an ON (Green light)-OFF-ON (Red Light) lighted switch such that the OFF position does not send signal regardless of the potentiometer resistance?
Pinout:
   1 Green light on
   2 Common (+ve)
   3 Red light on
   4 Negative

For the above configuration, how can the can the Red light on position enable the reverse (brown and black) switch to throw the motor in reverse?

For reference my Parts list is

Wanted / Re: MP3
« Last post by ElectricStreet on Yesterday at 01:57:28 AM »
I have a twist throttle on my 48v MP3 which I find a bit too touchy so I want to convert to a thumb throttle but I'm finding out the part is not available through the usual sources.  I have tried making an adapter from extra parts but it may be above my pay grade from the diagrams I have at my disposal.  So if I could find a new or used working thumb throttle it would alleviate all possibility of any errors from the start. If you have any suggestions about how to make a straightforward conversion (maybe color coded) or a source for me it would be greatly appreciated.

As the 10 previous posts in this "Wanted" section have been viewed between 2,939 and 6,693 times each, I would say that someone must be reading them.  ;)

If you want to buy an MPIII then a bit more information might be helpful such as wheel size, front or rear fitment and your location etc..

Magic Pie & Smart Pie Discussions / Re: MP EDGE: bearing sizes?
« Last post by Bikemad on May 05, 2024, 12:39:30 AM »
Thanks for the update, and for clarifying the correct bearing size.

I apologize for the misinformation and I have amended my previous post with the correct details to prevent further confusion.

From your pictures and measurements, the correct large bearing for the Magic Pie Edge should be a 6817-2RS (85mm x 110mm x 13mm).

I'm now wondering if the Smart Pies also use the same size bearings as the Edge.  :-\
I'll have to take a sneaky peek inside one of my Smart Pies at some stage to confirm the bearing sizes.

General Discussions / 5KW motor noise
« Last post by B0bD on May 04, 2024, 06:50:38 PM »
I have a 5kw water cooled 48V motor with a VEC300 controller, connected to a 14 cell LFP battery, powering a converted 9.9 Evinrude outboard.
It works fine but it is really noisy.
3-4 feet away, under no load, with the engine cover off, I measure up to 90 dB.
This is with the motor disconnected from the outboard motor gearbox.

Is this noise level unusual?

Is it possible for a mistake in the wiring to cause excessive motor noise?

IThe noise drops about 10dB when I put on the heavily insulated engine cover, but even 80 dB is much noisier than I would expect.

Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated.
