How to identify this hub/wheel motor?
« on: January 21, 2009, 12:12:49 AM »
Hi All,
I am new to this forum and this is my first post... :)

I recently got a rear,hub-motor/wheel from a friend of mine. Unfortunately I have no idea about the specs. Would be grateful if anyone could throw more light on the same.

This is all the info I could by looking on the outsides:

26" rear wheel with hub motor and a 6 speed derailleur.
There is a nameplate on hub motor with the following information: Sanyo DC 24v, CMU.2
Then embossed (2" fonts) in metal on the hub motor are are the letters CMU.
The Rim says manufactured in Holland and the words Rigida.

No information about the wattage, peak amps, what kind of throttle it takes etc.

Would be grateful if anyone can provide me that information.

Another daft question, since it says it is 24v, would I be able to test if it works by using a 12v leisure battery?

You want it works by using a 12v leisure battery

If it is brushless motor, you need 12v brushless controller.

If it is brush motor, you could connect your two motor wires to your battery.(parallel connection)

Hi Aandu,

My brushless motor has eight wires out of it, three power (thick) and five hall sensor (thin).

I don't know for sure but brushed motors should have less maybe even just two or maybe three,

I have heard of people running brushed motors directly off batteries - no controller. This cannot be done with brushless motors.

Thats all I've got for you, hope it is of some help
