48v 800w rear wheel motor.

has anybody else got one of these? I am assuming the 800w is peak power as I orderd a500w not what I would complain.
Im trying to get a new controller at the moment should I look for a 800w as aposed to a 500w? its no use asking the golden boys there lips are sealed as usal and I might have (complained) once so im propery off Phils xmas list, anyhow any (helpfull) sugestions .

I bought the kit from goldenmotor and it states on the wheel inscribed hbs
48 volt 800watt. it came with a regen controller and I think Phil said a 36v charger but thats hard to tell.

Its possible with all of the other quality control issues that the stamping is incorrect but you can determine the power coming out of the motor by measuring RPM and the voltage it produces when applied to a load, sort of like doing a load test for a battery. First, you can perform a quick test by attaching a voltmeter to two of the phase power leads coming from the motor. Disconnect the controller first and then spin the wheel. Write down the highest reading with the voltmeter on the AC setting. Lets us know what it is.

You need an 800W controller as the 500W rating is what is supplied to the wheel.  The controller needs to deliver 800W continuous and more to be reliable.

If you look at the HBS-36 500W motor performance curves you can see two power columns of data, the higher one is how much the motor uses and the smaller one is how much it delivers to the wheel.

so you rekon thats what they would stamp on the wheel, the input consumption so to speak and the output is 500w nominal power, so would the peak be 800w? has any one else got one of these, so I would a controller that will handle over 800w at about 25amps?

Actually the controller has to supply 730W to get 510W out of the motor.  The difference is the efficiency losses.
