I'm a potential buyer but I've got some questions for folks already using hub motors from Golden.

I've got the attached 1977 Batavus moped and I've removed the gasoline engine and want to use a rear mounted hub motor on it. It would have no pedal assist and needs to be able to travel at least 25mph one mile to work and one mile back in an urban setting (several stops at stop lights). There is only one hill on the trip.

1. Do you think the 1000w 48v hub motor here will be sufficient to do this with the moped and my 175lbs of weight?
2. I don't really want to spend the $ on lithium batteries yet, so will four 12v 18AH SLA batteries be sufficient?
3. Any other opinions before I hit the purchase button?

Yes why not I think your max speed will end on 27.9617037 mph
Depends on the size of your rim
Just se if the number of holes in the rim matches motor holes  :)

Yes if you bye Gel type they are 19 AH
and mount them in a low position where the Gasoline engine was mounted

Hi,

From my experience with the 1000W motor it probably will get you to 25 mph, however you'll find that the exceleration will be poor without the use of pedals, especially with four heavy lead acid batteries.

My advise is not to bother will SLA batteries because:

   They have a much short life span so are only superficially cheaper
   They will offer you less range then a comparable Lifepo4 battery due to their weight
   They will have less ecelleration compared to Lifepo4
   They suffer from voltage sag
