Title: Rebuilding my 45km/H scooter with MW16C and HPC100B
Post by: Eriknoort on January 08, 2010, 10:39:37 PM
I am rebuilding my e-scooter. The scooter had no power and no range.
I got it second hand.
The max speed was 40 km/H and the range was 25 KM.

Old hub motor.

New one the Goldenmotor MW16C
The Controller is the HPC100B 72 V
(http://85.151.90.28/foto/scooter/04012010032.jpg)
The battery 60V 18AH lead acid.
The new battery I ordered from sky energy is 60V 60AH Lifepo4.(not arrived yet)

The scooter is already very powerfull even with the poor 60V 18AH lead acid battery.

I have one question.
The manual  for the HPC100B read about (regenerative) braking. http://goldenmotor.com/BLDC%20Motor%20Controller%20for%20HPM5000B.pdf (http://goldenmotor.com/BLDC%20Motor%20Controller%20for%20HPM5000B.pdf)

From The manual in red
At the alive state, when the FWD button is on, the rotation of motor will be in CCW (look into
the motor shaft).
When the REV Button is on, the motor will be in CW.
If the FWD & REV button is both on and off, the motor can not run or will brake.

In the same manual there is a diagram with a FWD/REV button and a brake button.
I have tested the two buttons  "on/on"  "off/off" "on/off" and "off/on" but the motor would not brake.
Is there a way to regen. brake with the HPC100B?
Is there some information about the PD100 ?

Hallo Eric,

I'm very interested in your progress and results concerning your replacement with the MW 16c.
Any progress? ???

Keep us informed.. ;D

Hi Jeroen,

Today I received a message from a logistics company that my lifepo4 60V 60AH battery pack is arrived in Rotterdam.
This week after custom clearance I can pick it up and go on with the project.
Last week I replaced the trottle for a goldenmotor one, with the red switch.
Now the scooter can go forward and backwards.  ;D

Hi Erik,

I'm curious, and looking forward to your experiences with your new batteries.

I read the MW 16 is very noisy, what's your opinion? I ask, because I waited because of that.

The challange for me is to go fast as possible, with as less noise as possible. ;D

Grtz,
Jeroen

Hi Jeroen,

The MW16C make some noise when it spins up.
Above 10 km/h it is quiet.
I could not pick up the battery because there was some problem with the paperwork.
I could not get contact with Sky Energy because of the chinese new Year holiday.
Today I had contact and they take care of it on monday.
With some luck I can pick it op monday afternoon.

That noise sounds familiair, the 1500 W hubmotor that I replaced instead the original CVT, does the same.

Hope you reunite soon with your batteries ...  ;)

Battery arrived finaly.
After five evenings work I did some testdriving.
The battery was bigger then the specs in the catalog.
So I had to build a frame to place the battery on the scooter.
I build a plastic cover for the battery. There is some place left to put my feet.
After charging 64V 60AH I did a testdrive with a lot of acceleration. After 75 km the battery was almost empty.
The topspeed is 65 km/h (GPS speed) Maybe I can program the controller to get more RMP.
Acceleration is fantastic.

I have to paint the blue plastic.

I have to paint the blue plastic.

Erik,

If you cover the plastic panel with fabric backed black vinyl material (as used on vinyl roofs), it would go nicely with the seat and should withstand the inevitable knocks and scuffs from your shoes etc. without flaking off like paint on plastic usually does.

The scooter is looking very smart, do you know what the difference in weight is between these batteries and the old lead acid ones?

I was just wondering where your skid lid would go, but then I noticed the top box hiding in the picture. ;)

Does it wheelspin in reverse, or is reverse not wired up?

If you had a hidden reverse switch, it would make it more difficult to steal if the lock was forced. ;D

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the advice about the black vinyl. I try that.

About the battery, the original 5 times 12V 18AH was 32 KG.
New LiFePo4  64V 60AH is total 48 KG.

I used the red button on the goldenmotor Trottle to reverse but I did not try the top speed in reverse ;D

Today my son went to school with the scooter and did about 75 KM. The BMS say 13% , 7.8 AH left.

Hi Erik,

why have you decided to use 60V battery pack instead of 48V (MW16C has 48V input voltage according to GM specs)? Thanks!

It looks reaaaaaally great! Thanks for sharing the info with us! :)

Ilya.

Because I want power and speed.
The scooter was 60V already and the motor can handle that without any problem.
My son did 96 km today on a single charge.

Yesterday I connected my laptop to the BMS and read the statistics.

At full acceleration it read 135A. at 60V.
That is 8100 Watt or 11 HP. ;D
Not bad for a scooter I think.

Eriknoort,

This is the CONSUMED power :D do not confuse with the delivered power that should be less 'causu of common losses like friction and heat. But still a lot of power :D

Take 20% off for efficiency which is measured from Newton meters per amp volt and watt, and he still has a 6.5kw output.

Here is an update.

After destroying my front rim, I replaced the front suspention and front wheel with a bigger one.
The original front wheel was 10" now its a 12" wheel with diskbrake.
The rear tyre was worn out after 4500 km, I replaced the original 10x3.50 with a much bigger 120/90-R10.
This is resulting in a better handling and comfort of the scooter.

Yes but even at 50% efficiency thats still 4000+ watts.  As opposed to the true output of any other hub motor.

65kph and 97km range.  Awesome.
