Title: SCOTT 29er conversion - before and after pic's
Post by: Webby on October 16, 2011, 11:57:42 AM
Hello All

I've had this Scott Scale 29er Comp 2012 conversion on the road for a couple of weeks now and she is a beautiful beast.
It's a true monster - although the frame is XL the wheels are big and bold, I'm hoping this is going to stand up nicely against the british weather this winter.

Also its the first time I have ever had hydrolic brakes .. now thats what I call braking power!  :o

It's Rolls like a dream and going so fast it honestly sounds like a swarm of bees with the Rocket Ron tyres  :D - Actually I've got a couple of Big Apples on order as even with a kevlar strip its not going to be long before a blow out.

Anyway anyone thinking of doing this / done it I'm sure will agree its mega fun!

(BTW - the whole bike is about 5KG's lighter than my previous hybred - cool)

Cheers all

I thought your Barbecue was a front mounted battery pack when I first looked at that picture.

Bike looks real good Webby. Not sure if I could handle that seat though! I prefer something that feels more like a sofa.

So what exactly is a 29er? Is it as simple as a 29 inch rim? If so then I guess you had to spoke that wheel yourself?

Gary

Hi Gary

Cheers! Actually you would be surprised how much the big wheel + the 2.35" width smooths the road, its quite comfortable  ;D

Basically a 29er is an oversized mountain bike, the top of twheels stands about 4" higher than a standard 26" MTB wheels .. thats alot more rolling power.

They have been around a while but been fairly niche, now all the top brands are investing int hem for the 2012 season.
