Monkey,

That version appears to be fitted with "eight foot" wheels, whereas the original (see attachement below) had two six foot wheels, and each one was a different diameter.  Disc brakes were the preferred option as loose laces would regularly become entangled in the calipers, causing major problems with the toe-in and heel alignment.
When fitted with Dr Martin air cushion soles, they gave a very comfortable and sure footed ride, but unfortunately they were susceptible to punctures, and many riders ended up with flat feet.

Mind you, it's surprising how many "foot pounds" of torque could be applied before they would start heelspinning. ;D

They had it all sorted in 1972. I might just have to get a lamp/sun shade for my bike.

great use of imagination, their Dad must have been a legend, it looks like they've just ridden through a jumble sale and everything stuck to them

I haven't seen a ten foot version, but some motorcycles used the six foot design:

And here's a photo of a wheel under construction:

The unicycle version is attached below.

Haha, I just tried that and I could upload an endless supply of pictures of odd bikes. It was very entertaining and my kids loved it too!
