LED light connection?
« on: November 05, 2009, 08:49:56 AM »
I just got a 36v 500w kit with the 36v16ah battery with LED light.
Please, tell me if the LED light connection in the pdf plan is correct

Hi Titanus1

The connections to the light unit are the wrong way around. ???
The Black -ve lead should be at the rear of the light and the Red +ve lead should be at the front. (See this post)
It would be better to have the switch on the +ve side of the lamp, as the lamp mounting bracket is connected to ground!
This will ensure the lamp does not remain on (with the light switch turned off), as it will if your battery is also grounded.
I would recommend using a small inline fuse (1Amp or less) for the lighting circuit, where it connects to the +ve supply.

The cable route should be something like this:
[Battery/Speed controller +ve]->Red cable->
[Fuse]->Brown cable->
[Switch]->Yellow cable->
[Soldered joint]->Red cable to front connection on headlamp->
[Lamp]->Black cable from rear of headlamp->
[Battery/Speed controller -ve]

I'll try to post a better circuit diagram for the lighting when I get some spare time.

send me the right LED connection diagram.

This should be easier to understand:

And use this diagram if you're using the LED lights with a Magic Pie kit:

Yes that's correct, but when you cut the connector off, you might want to leave a short length of wire attached to it, so that if you decide to use Reverse in the future, you will have a plug with short wires ready to attach additional cabling to a suitable switch.

Hello All!

I'm just looking at the modified wiring diagram (nice job!) and I'm thinking there still might be a error. Seems to me that one side of the rear LED is grounded and I think that the red (positive) is leading to the that side. I wish I was near my bike to check this but I do recall the lens pops off and the grounded side can be spotted quite easily. Can someone pop their lens off to check this?

Thanks for the feedback Gary.

I have just amended the above diagram and it should now be correct, please let me know if it's not!

The diagram looks great. Now if we can get Yao Yaun to replace the diagram in the instalation guide with this one we could save people some problems. I burned out the switch in my thumb trottle using the original diagram. I know its an obvious error if you take the time to look at the grounds on both lights, but I just blindly followed the instructions in the guide thinking they must be correct.
