tire dimensions
« on: September 20, 2009, 10:40:09 AM »
Hello, I have received a 16" cast wheel motor, but since it has no indication on it, I don't know what are the dimensions of the needed tire. 16" of course, but which width ? I tried a 16 x 2.125 tire, too thin.
Here is the drawing : http://www.goldenmotor.com/hubmotors/MW16B%20Drawing.pdf
Does anybody know ? Thank you.

According to the drawing the diameter of the wheel is 321 mm, closest to that seems to be 16 x 1 3/4 with 317 mm.  See also: Measuring Bicycle Rim Sizes.

It's this measurement that is causing the problem:

It probably needs a wider motorcycle type tyre.

I guess you're right, it already seemed weird to use such an unusual size, and caradec had already tried 16 x 2.125 which looked to be the widest bicycle tire in that size (ETRTO 57-305).

For the moment, I have mounted the 2.125 - 16 tire with high inflation, and it finally seems to fit, despite it is a bit thin.
After a road test, I'll tell you. Thank you everybody.
